Sterling silver in a helix piercing?

So I’ve had my helix pierced for almost a year, and I’ve always heard not to wear sterling silver in any sort of cartilage piercing. Is this true/ what could happen? Or is this just bad when it’s initially pierced?

Sterling silver is not meant for extended wear anywhere in the body, but can be worn for short periods of time in healed piercings. Silver can tarnish in your ear, resulting in a black mark around your piercing, which can be permanent for some. It also causes allergic reactions for people who have nickel allergies.
